Identifying altered immune function in chronically undernourished children

Immune function figure

Using samples collected from undernourished children receiving nutritional supplementation in rural Bangladesh, this project asks questions about the differences in immune cell subsets – and their gene expression – between responders (those whose growth improves from the supplement) and non-responders (those whose growth continues to decline or stay the same). The aim is to identify alterations in immune function that are impeding nutritional uptake, which could be the potential targets of future interventions.
